FREE event. Central Tots @ Central Citizens’ Library District @ 1134 E. 3100 N. Road, Suite C, Clifton, IL. 815.694.2800. The Central Tots program will be starting up again for this coming school year. The first session will be on Tuesday, September 8th, at 6:30 PM. This program is for preschool-age children and features read-aloud stories, some skills work, and a related craft. It is also an opportunity for both children and parents to socialize with others. The Tots program is offered twice a week with an evening session on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM and a repeat session on Friday mornings at 10:00 AM. No registration is required. The Potawatomi Paddlers Association, an Illinois organization supportive of the Kankakee River Water Trail, will meet at 7:00pm today at Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see, 6641 N. 6000W Road, off Illinois Route 102, between the Kankakee River State Park main entrance and Warner Bridge Road. The agenda includes presentation of draft bylaws for approval, funding for the organization, a proposed “Blessing of the Waters” ceremony, a “roll-out” event for the paddlers next spring, membership and volunteer recruitment, promotion of public awareness, highway signs and more.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's’® 2017. 815.744.0804. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Perry Farm Park (459 North Kennedy Drive) in Bourbonnais, IL. Participants will complete a 3.1 mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Start or join a team today at alz.org/walk or (815) 744-0804. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 9:30, and the walk at 10. FREE event. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten @ Central Citizens’ Library District @ 1134 E. 3100 N. Road, Suite C, Clifton, IL. 815.694.2800. Central Citizens’ Library District is excited to announce the launch of a new FREE program! Join us on Saturday, September 17, at 10:00 AM, for the launch of our 1,ooo Books Before Kindergarten program. This event is for families with children birth to preschool age. Participants will enjoy outer space themed books, games, crafts, and educational information for parents. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families to read to children to prepare them for Kindergarten. Each family will receive a packet at registration with a reading log and a fun prize for the child. Prizes will be awarded throughout the program for each 100 books read. There is no time limit to complete each goal, or to complete the program, although it is encouraged to complete the program by the time the child has reached age six. A Graduation and Family Reading party will be held each March and September to acknowledge those who have completed the program. This program is possible through grant funds received through the Community Foundation of Kankakee & Iroquois counties. FREE event. Senior Fair hosted by Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene @ 1000 N. Entrance Avenue, Kankakee. Living Well at Every Age: health screenings, elder care, community information, bingo, spin & win, Senior Citizen of the Year. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for registration and the day starts with a welcome from our event emcee Phil Angelo. Everyone who registers will receive a goody bag that includes information and special offers from area businesses as well as being entered to win door prizes. More than 30 vendors will offer samples and information. Plus Presence St. Mary’s Hospital will offer Blood Pressure, Glucose and Cholesterol screenings. Senior Fair will also feature seminars on staying active and connected, protecting your identity, how to take care of your prescriptions, and volunteer opportunities. New this year is a room dedicated to Elder Care and the challenges that needing additional care can bring. Have some fun with the 'Spin & Win Wheel which is back by popular demand as well as Bingo. The grand finale of the event will be a performance by the Olivet Nazarene Jazz Combo, The Turnaround from 2-2:50 p.m. Enjoy some smooth jazz, something every age can enjoy. As the final notes trail off, winners will be announced for door prizes! Make sure to register when you arrive. You must be present to win. Senior Fair is also where we honor the Senior Citizen of the Year and Senior Citizen Service Provider of the Year. The recipients are those who have dedicated their time and talents to our community. Nominations come from the public and a committee at the Daily Journal selects the awards winners. This year’s awards presentation will take place at approximately 1:45 p.m. Winners will receive a plaque and $100 donation to the charity of his/her choice.
